Steel siding is ever growing in popularity these days and its just goes to show. After either 10 or 20 and I’ve seen even 25 year old steel that to this day looks like new. You never have to paint or maintain besides a quick washing just to keep the dirt and grime off just like any other siding.
Steel siding is very strong and resists shrinking and bulging when the temperatures change. It doesn’t fade or get brittle like even the highest grade vinyl out there. I personally have steel siding on my house and we as a company do about 50% of our siding jobs in steel these days due to the problems with the Hardie and LP and also these ever growing storms that have been hitting us.
We buy the steel from a few suppliers in mn , but we prefer to use the Edco brand due to there highest of quality and they are local ,just up in Hopkins,MN
These days there are more choices in siding materials due to the problems with vinyl fading or cracking or the old masonite getting rotten or unable for wood to take paint.
With LP smartside and Hardie board siding they are the newer product that has seen many changes threw out the years to help with the them type of problems. There is still a up keep to them , like painting and making sure the caulking is holding up after years or problems will arise with this type of siding . But if done well and using a high quality paint and caulk you can get years of great looking siding.
This Hard board siding can resemble stucco, wood clapboards, or cedar shingles, depending on how the panels are textured. Fiber cement siding is more durable than wood or stucco, and is also fire resistant.
Although more expensive than vinyl, fiber cement siding is considerably less expensive than wood. Fiber cement siding has become popular because it requires little maintenance and can have a natural, wood-like appearance.
Modern science has given us many synthetic wood-look products, and yet solid wood (usually cedar, pine, spruce, redwood, cypress, or Douglas fir) remain favorite choices for finer homes. With periodic care, wood siding will outlast vinyl and other pretenders. As with cedar shingle siding, wood clapboards can be stained rather than painted. Many wood frame houses built centuries ago still look beautiful today.
